Here's what I wrote when this was posted like 2 hours ago:
"While publicly shaming asshat drivers is nice and well, one has to keep in mind that these people belong to the "Putin Youth". An organization which also flushes books from unwelcome critics down giant toilets (because publicly burning them has come a little out of fashion after '45) or stalk and bully people who speak out against that half naked man on the horse in public.
This looks funny on the outside but there's a very dark side to it."

Here in the US, we have a pretty elegant solution to these problems in many places. Admittedly, there are a few things the US and EU need to trade thoughts on. Here in the US we could use those railroad crossing guards that come up vertically. Looks like russia could use a few rebar and concrete poles. Would certainly give people something to think about.

Russia is not part of the EU.

Nibby, you have made my day. Thank you.
Also, I'd love it if the world revoked the license of every driver in this video—no exceptions.

I'm not saying it is, I was referring to things that exist in the EU that the US don't use.
And specifically that Russia could use some concrete poles.

"The truth is always good" best line.

How did you find that out?

This isn't exactly "News", those people were in several news reports one or two years ago. Watched a full 45 mins report on them probably in 2012.
I'm currently trying to find a picture of that giant toilet they built to "flush" books. So far no dice.....

Can't find that giant toilet. It was somewhat impressing while being scary at the same time. If you are interested, this sums them up in a nutshell:

Ok so you have no idea what you are talking about. Go spew your anti Putin propaganda elsewhere.
StopHam are a bunch of regular people who got fed up with drivers that think they are above the law and took it upon themselves to crack down on bad drivers. If cops aren't going to do it because they are corrupt and worthless then someone has to. Anyone can join their raids.
StopHam isn't the only organization that are standing up to bad drivers either. There are numerous ones popping up in Russia because citizens are fed up with politicians who think they are above the law and cops that are worthless. They want to live in a country where everyone obeys the law or pays a price.
The so called Putin Youth are claimed to be anti American. Guys with StopHam are anything but that. They are trying to bring order to their society and they don't discriminate against anyone. They target all law breakers, including cops and politicians.

It won't work, Russians will find another way.

Nibby, if you want to waste and afternoon, here are a bunch of their channels.

These guys are pretty good too although they use different tactics. Instead of putting stickers on the windshields they simply film the law breakers and send their footage to proper authorities. As a result many people end up getting fines in the mail. Sometimes they call the cops for help.

It might not work, but Id love to see the dashcam footage with concrete poles in place.

I posted some links to StopHam and Dvizhenie videos. I don't have time right now to go through them but there are videos of activists putting giant boulders on the sidewalk and people plow over them. Also, if you watch Dvizhenie videos you will see people driving over tram tracks, scraping their wheels and undercarriages as well as getting stuck. Not to mention driving in reverse to pass rush hour traffic or flat out driving on the wrong side of the road.

Thanks!

Ive seen many of those videos (but somehow missed the boulders), and Im just baffled. Theres plenty of people here in NJ that drive in the shoulder or use the turning lane to pass traffic, and I just dont get it.
Moat recently in the news we have the very bad train crash at the Valhalla station in NY. The woman driving violated the #1 rule of stopping on train tracks, but at the same time, breaking the rule of not being able to clear the intersection. Theres just no excuse whatsoever.
For the russians, I will never understand. I value my life I guess...I dont have anywhere to be so badly that I would willingly put either myself or other people at so much risk. And if I were stopped by people clearly and calmly stating why I was wrong, fine, no reason to hit them or attempt to. Just doesnt make sense to me.

The only way to understand is to get into Russian's heads. Most Russians today think they are better then the person next to them. Much like Americans but worse because in Russia there are little to no repercussions for their actions. Most cops in Russia can be paid off on the spot and if someone does end up being charged the fine is so small that Russians just don't care. Most people in Russia that break the law are assholes that got their pockets stuffed in the 90's after the collapse of the Soviet Union. During the Yeltsin administration there was really a shit storm happening in the country. Pretty much anything went and the country was ruled by criminals with Yeltsin acting as a sock puppet president. While regular folks suffered in poverty, criminals stuffed their pockets and prospered. Then Putin happened and shit got real. Assholes however, remained assholes and regular folks remained regular folks.
Eventually this will probably cease to exist. Doubt it will happen in the near future but sometime in the next 20-30 years Russia might join the rest of the civilized world.

Maybe I might have mixed things up here.
All I can remember is you being very understanding of Russia's actions in Crimea and the like when we discussed that in the crossposted articles from ... well ... these new pseudo blogs like Foxtrot.
I consider myself a rather open minded person, so I am asking this out of pure curiosity.
Can you provide me with some more reading material? As you might have noticed, this is a topic I am interested in, so if you can provide me with some links (preferably to scientific papers, but newspaper stuff will do) I will read it!
